Sun King Wrong

I love it when ancient and modern collide.

This week, we had the longest day of the year. It’s an important day for pagans who celebrate the summer solstice.  It reminded me of when we lived in Wiltshire and visited the ancient stone circles at Avebury on the day of the solstice. We accidentally found ourselves witnessing a ceremony amongst the stones, that was being led by a druid looking high priest of sorts who was wearing a white robe and a stags head, complete with antlers as a hat.

The image of this wizard, warlock or sorcerer was completely shattered about half an hour later, when I saw him take off his stag’s head in the car park of the Red Lion and place it in the back of his Nissan Micra.

Craic on!
