How an air-conditioning mechanic in Sydney Australia became an award winning broadcaster in Britain; Part 220.

I often find myself in the wrong place at the wrong time.

In May 2010, I started as the Breakfast Presenter at BBC Wiltshire, based in Swindon. I didn’t go on the air straight away and spent the first week driving around visiting various parts of the town, meeting local people and recording a quick chat with them telling me all about their area. The plan was to use the recordings on the air of listeners helping me settle into the town.

Everything was going fine until I visited a Royal British Legion Club. I wandered into a big room where a buffet was laid out, stuck a microphone under the nose of a friendly looking lady, introduced myself and said, “Tell me three things about this area”. She said, “Well, Dave has died, the funeral was today and this is the wake”.
