How an air-conditioning mechanic in Sydney Australia became an award winning broadcaster in Britain; Part 212.

Liverpool’s win on penalties in the Capital One Cup last week reminds me of one radio station I worked at where most of the staff became Liverpool supporters.

From January 2004 to June 2006, I was the Program Director at 2CR FM on the South Coast. The staff worked out that I was in a much better mood after Liverpool had won. If they needed me to approve anything, they always brought it to me after a Reds victory.

In May 2005, I went to Istanbul to watch the European Cup Final. The staff must have been worried when Liverpool were trailing 3-0 to A.C. Milan at half time. I heard that 2CR employees who didn’t even like football were cheering when Liverpool won on penalties that night.

They probably got all sorts past me when I got back. I would have signed off on just about anything!

Craic on!
