Booze Views

Britain’s unhealthy attitude to alcohol is so messed up that not having a drink is considered an athletic achievement now.

Don’t get me wrong, I think it’s great that Cancer Research UK are encouraging people to stop drinking for a month but calling it a “Dryathlon” shows just how much of a problem booze is in our society.

I haven’t had a drink since June 1998 and it’s not that big a deal. I never miss it, love waking up without a hangover, sleeping better and being able to drive to and from every night out.

Unless you have a serious problem with drink, going without shouldn’t be seen as a major achievement. At the end of this month, thousands of “Dryathletes” will be behaving like they deserve a medal!

Maybe I should start saying that I’ve completed two hundred and ten back-to-back Dryathlons?

Craic on!
