How an air-conditioning mechanic in Sydney Australia became an award winning broadcaster in Britain; Part 199.

Once I was given a dead fish.

It was in 2009 when I was the Breakfast Show host at TFM Radio in the North East. I’d been the guest of honour at the birthday celebrations at a local lifeboat station. I don’t know why I was booked and I had no idea I was the guest of honour until they called on me at the event and asked me to say a few words.

Afterwards they gave me this large dead fish. I don’t know if it was a trout or a salmon, all I know is it was big and it’s eyes stared at me as I threw it, tail first into a rubbish bin in a roadside lay-by on the way home.

When I think about it now, a dead fish seems like an odd choice of gift from an organisation that SAVES lives at sea.

Maybe they didn’t like my ad-libbed speech and were sending a message, like in this scene from “The Godfather”!
