How an air-conditioning mechanic in Sydney Australia became an award winning broadcaster in Britain; Part 146.

Breakfast radio is live, because of that things don’t always go exactly the way you planned.

In 2002, I was the host of the Breakfast Show on 106 Century FM in the East Midlands. Darren Fletcher was our sports reporter and he was having trouble with his dog. Kobe was a mental chocolate labrador and Fletch was beginning to think that he was untrainable. We pitched on the air for an expert dog trainer. A lady called up so we booked her to come in one morning on the show.

She turned up at the agreed time but there was no sign of Darren or the dog. We ended up calling him live on the air on his mobile. He said that he was outside his house, looking into his car, Kobe was inside the car and had locked him out.

Darren had put the dog in the car, left his keys in the ignition, gone back to lock the house up and when he returned to the car, Kobe had stood on the button that activates the central locking.

Craic on!
