Hot Under The Collar.

Do you know how to use a thermostat or are you one?

It’s been very warm here in the south east of England lately. That means air-conditioning has been switched on more often. Unfortunately some people don’t seem to know how to work it so as a former air-conditioning engineer let me explain.

Room temperature is 22 degrees Celsius or 72 Fahrenheit. Set the thermostat to that temperature. That’s it, that’s all you need to know about thermostats.

Here’s what a lot of people do; they walk into a hot room, turn the air-conditioning on and turn the thermostat all the way down. After a while, the room becomes too cold so they turn the air-conditioning off. Soon the room is too hot, so they turn it back on again. This behaviour continues for the rest of the summer.

When you do this, YOU have become the thermostat.
