Have you ever found yourself asking what, to you, is a perfectly reasonable question but then realise that the person you’re asking thinks you’ve lost your mind?

In early February 1997, Julie and I were about to leave the New South Wales Central Coast and move to England. Our car was being put on a ship and would be joining us ten weeks after we flew out. We were going from the Australian summer to the British winter. I wasn’t sure how the car would adjust to the much colder climate and wanted to play it safe.

With the outside temperature close to 40 degrees Celsius (104 Fahrenheit), I walked into a petrol station and said to the bloke behind the counter, “Do you sell antifreeze?”.

Craic on!
