How an air-conditioning mechanic in Sydney Australia became an award winning broadcaster in Britain Part 59.

14Apr14

In June 1995, I’d handed my notice in at 5SE Mount Gambier. I’d been doing the Breakfast show there for about a year and had been offered the Drive-time gig at 3GG in Warragul Victoria. It was a good job and I was really looking forward to working with the Program Director, Mark Vale. Days before we were due to move house, I was offered nights at a much bigger station, just outside Sydney, 2GO on the New South Wales Central Coast. This was a great job, a real step up. The only problem was, I had signed a contract with 3GG.

I called Mark Vale and he understood straight away. He knew 2GO was where I wanted to be and wished me luck. It could have been awkward but Mark made it all very easy. He’s one of the best program directors I’ve never worked for.

Now all we had to do in the next couple of DAYS was work out how we were going to get everything we owned from Mount Gambier to Gosford, a distance of 1300kms. We also needed to find somewhere to live.

Craic on!
