How an air-conditioning mechanic in Sydney Australia became an award winning broadcaster in Britain Part 50.

Why is it that just when you think things couldn’t get any better, they suddenly take a turn for the worse?

Things were going great in 1994. I was presenting the Breakfast Show on 5SE Mount Gambier in South Australia and I was doing TV commercials for a car dealers. Then my boss, the Program Director decided he wanted to move into sales.

The new Program Director arrived from another state. He said he didn’t like what I did on the air and made sure he told me that every day. He brought in all sorts of rules like banning on air phone calls and saying anything funny.

It turned out that he used to work at the radio station years before and used to be a big deal there. One night I turned on the TV and there he was presenting a new commercial for the car dealers that the week before, I had been presenting.

It was time to start packing and look around for another job.
