How an air-conditioning mechanic in Sydney Australia became an award winning broadcaster in Britain Part 39.

“The lock-up where our stuff is stored has been broken into!” That’s what Julie said to me after she got off the phone from the removal company.

In August 1994, we’d moved from Parkes in the Central West of New South Wales to Mount Gambier in South Australia. Mount Gambier is over a thousand kilometres from Parkes but we made the move because I’d got a job as the afternoon Drive presenter at the local commercial radio station, 5SE.

We had nowhere to live so the radio station put us in a hotel for a week while we found somewhere. All of our stuff had travelled ahead of us in a removal truck and we thought it was safe in storage. It was only when we got to the lock-up and saw the results of the break-in that we realised how desperate our situation had become.

Everything we owned, every one of our prized possessions was in that lock-up. The steel door had been forced open, all of our boxes had been opened and tragically, NOTHING had been taken. – How humiliating.

Craic on!
